Mixed Pipe Sizes (hose and mask hose)
Hi All, potentially can problems be caused with having a different sized main hose compared to the mask hose? Just been to the hospital and they have given me a cpap machine (I have my own machine which I have been using successfully for the last 6 months) and as above the pipes for mask and main hose are different. The machine has a setting for 22mm and 15mm.
I have tried both sizes in the settings and im really struggling to exhale. I normally have it set to 10 with EPR 2 on my machine, but with this, 10 EPR 2 nearly blew my brains out. Impossible to exhale, thats on the 22mm setting.
I have reduced to 6 and EPR 3 and hose setting to 15, and its better, but still a struggle.
Could this be because of the tubing or is it just the machine and mask im not used to?
Its a BMC machine and i personally have a resmed 10..
Anyone have any ideas? I would like to be able to use the health service machine rather than my own, but this is no go right now.
RE: Mixed Pipe Sizes (hose and mask hose)
If you have a Resmed, why would you use a BMC? Are you saying the hospital requires you to use a Chinese made BMC rather than the device you own? In this case, it's the inferior machine that does not deliver pressure with EPR in anywhere near the same way as your Resmed. Many hospitals require patients to use devices they dispense while in the hospital, purportedly to protect their electrical systems from noise interference. If that is the case, ask if the hospital electrician can test and approve your Resmed.
RE: Mixed Pipe Sizes (hose and mask hose)
If you felt better, while using your machine, and your apnea was under control, using your personal machine seems like the better option.
Manufacturers have their own proprietary software and sensors, so the cpap machine responses would be different.
It may take awhile for your body to get used to the new machine and the new mask.
Are you still in the hospital, not clear by your post?

They just want me to use their machine and also say I cant change any of the settings.
Do we think the pipe differences would cause problems or is this BMC thing just junk?
Im at home now. Its not an electrical problem. Just a Spanish heath service problem
RE: Mixed Pipe Sizes (hose and mask hose)
Hose differences can effect air flow rate, sometimes a different sound. But I do not know the sizes that you have
How do they respond when they hear that you are "struggling to exhale"?
Is this your primary care doctor or a hospital Physician? I do not know how much autonomy you have in selecting your apnea care. so I can not offer you advice, maybe someone else here can.
RE: Mixed Pipe Sizes (hose and mask hose)
I can just use my own machine, but I would like to see if I can use theirs, as then I get everything for free.
I wont see them again for a month. I am not supposed to change the settings, but whatever to that, I dont care about the rules. I just want to know if its worth persisting with this setup because of the mixed pipes and the machine being a cheap chinese brand, or should I just forget at it an continue to use my own machine (bearing in mind that i will have to pay for everything)
RE: Mixed Pipe Sizes (hose and mask hose)
I would use the ResMed you already have. You should know it's going to be much better machine and therapy.
They want to issue a cheap machine then tell you not to edit settings. Sounds like a losing combo. Just say no thanks.
Mask Primer
Positional Apnea
Attach OSCAR, etc.

The BMC thing is Chinese junk. It is sold as a medical device in the U.S. under an Emergency Use Authorization that was granted during COVID-19 under the premise that there was a shortage of CPAP and ventilators. Your Resmed has full FDA Approval. I don't know how devices are approved and prescribed en Espana, but don't argue with these guys, just use your own and refuse this piece of junk that clearly doesn't work as well, and that has not been set to your prescribed settings. Most doctors know that their patients can tell when things are, or are not working for them. It makes sense that the lowest price provider is a Chinese company, but that doesn't make them best. Are you sure your health system exclusively uses BMC, or is Resmed also available to those that refuse to accept inferior and less comfortable equipment?
If you want to adjust settings on the BMC, Apneaboard can provide a clinical manual and instructions on changing settings.

As usual, thanks guys. Inputs always valued. Will feed this back to them. Not sure if they will do anything about it, but at least I have something that works.

Common sense conclusions here...Resmed works well and you can't sleep with the ResSmart. Use the Resmed.
