Just got my Own APAP - a ResMed S9!
Greetings all;

I just got my Own APAP this morning:

ResMed S9 APAP
With humidifier, heated tube and ResMed Swift LT for Her - Nasal Pillows System

Woo Hoo!

Some questions for the group:
  1. Can I use my fleece hose cover on a heated hose? (Hopefully will keep our cat, Vanya, from even TRYING to chew on the hose)
  2. Can this the APAP be used without the humidifier?

Evpraxia, well done, you can but it's not necessary, give it a try.
You can use it without the humidifer, the humdifer is mainly for comfort.
I use mine all the time but a friend of mine bought one without a humidifer to save costs and doesn't have any problems.

  2. Can this the APAP be used without the humidifier? That's commonly done. I do that all the time since I haven't found that I need to add humidity yet.

Hi Evpraxia,
CONGRATULATIONS! on the new machine.
To answer your first question, I use a hose cover on my heated hose all the time.
Hang in there for more suggestions and enjoy the new machine.

Congrads on the new machine. Wish you all the best.
Humidity is not a necessity. Mostly for comfort as the others have indicated.

Hi Evpraxia,

Having hose cover should cause no problems. Heated hose will still deliver air at correct temperature.

ResMed web site says;

"Because the system measures temperature at the mask, it will remain at the preferred setting, regardless of changes in ambient temperature or humidity."

Take care,

Great input - thanks folks!

On the possibility of our cat even THINKING about chewing on the hose, I may put some of the No Chew stuff on it; but I am unsure if that would hurt the hose...hummm, better not until I check with the No Chew spray company or ResMed on Monday.

As the name imply the heated hose (ClimateLine) is heated, insulating cover is not necessary and would interfere with the sensor at the mask end. ResMed does not make a hose cover especially for the climate line, they make cover for the standard hose which a bit shorter than the heated hose. You can use the machine without the humidifier but the heated hose only works with the humidifier attached

From what Vaughn posted, I'd say you can probably use the cover safely. I always hesitate to OK something that has even the smallest possibility of putting a user at risk of higher temperature or smoke/fume inhalation. If ResMed says it's OK, that's pretty reassuring that it has likely been tested and found safe.

It's up to you. I wouldn't do it but that's just me. YMMV
