Lymes and sleep apnea

Has anyone developed sleep apnea after being diagnosed (and perhaps even treated) with Lymes? I am sure mine is neurological damage post Lymes as don't fit into any of the categories of a sleep apnea patient. Any thoughts on phrenic nerve inflammation? My throat snaps shut continuously as soon as I start relaxing to sleep and my body jerks...any feedback much appreciated! Have suspended my initial pathetic attempts (1 hour on 2 separate days) of treatment and am awaiting my third mask to start again...

Ok.. I'll bite.. how did you get this idea? Not saying your wrong, just curious.

Any thoughts on phrenic nerve inflammation?

Have you been seen a pulmonary specialist and has he referred you you to a pulmonary / thoracic surgeon?

My Sleep Dr. has refereed my case to a pulmonary surgeon...

Have you asked your Dr. these questions?

Apparently there are several things that can cause this although I haven't found anything that correlates to Lymes.

But I'm no Dr.... nor researcher...

What are the categories of a sleep apnea patient? We are young, old, male, female, tall, short, fat, skinny, children, adults, sick and otherwise healthy. Did you have something else in mind?

Don't take offense to my categorization of sleep apnea patients, just my Dr. who was surprised...but I understand your point, it doesn't discriminate! No, I haven't seen a thorassic or pulmonary Dr. I am told other Lymes patients have developed sleep apnea so I thought there might be a link there.

You'd have to work harder than that for me to take offence! I just wanted to point out while there is a stereotypical apnea patient, that we come in a wide variety. I don't know anything about Lyme other than I never want it. It could be the cause of your apnea.

Ok.. and again no offense intended.. but your statement of "other Lymes patients have developed sleep apnea" is akin to saying, if others are a fat, ugly bloke like me, you too COULD develop sleep apnea.

All I know is, I became a bit curious about your initial question about some kind of a causal correlation between contracting Lymes and subsequent development of Sleep Apnea because of contracting Lymes specifically.

I performed a cursory search and nothing seemed to appear being a causal relationship between Lymes and Sleep Apnea.

I didn't say one doesn't exist, just I couldn't find anything that jumped off the page clearly articulating and demonstrating or otherwise showing that relationship.

Nevertheless, it's an interesting question.

I had severe neuro-Lyme's in the summer of 2013 It changed my life. I had sleep apnea before diagnosis, and used my APAP through the hospitalization and recovery. Never underestimate what the Lymes infection might have affected.

Thanks for feedback. Yes, this is a horrific disease. I hope you are recovered now. Breathing issues at night quite desperate now while I wait for my new mask to try and attack the cpap again...feel sure it is due to the Lymes..

It's possible. It would help if you'd post some data. The sense of strong obstruction would occur if pressure is not sufficient to stent the airway. Your profile shows a nearly default 4-20 pressure range, and that is probably a bit part of the problem. Minimum pressure needs to increase until that sense of obstruction is stopped.
