Squealing Resmed AirCurve ASV

Squealing Resmed AirCurve ASV
Hi Folks,
After nearly 5 years of very successful therapy on my Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV, I upgraded to the Aircurve 11 after the 10 started to squeal loudly, waking me up throughout the night. I was just out of warranty, so the decision to upgrade to the 11 seemed the right decision, versus sending in a nearly 5 year old 10 for possible repair.

Trouble is, the 11 also squealed! It sounds to me like a leak at the blower, inside the machine. It coincides with pressure surges, as I am awakened by the squeal, I've noted the machine was pumping me pretty hard at the time. It is my guess I am having an apnea, the machine surges the pressure aggressively in response, and with the back pressure caused by my own innate resistance, a leak occurs back up inside the machine.

After some reasonable back-and-forth with my DME, we agreed to request a return authorization and send it in to Resmed for evaluation. Resmed came back within a week(good response IMHO) simply to report "Yes, there was an issue", and they sent me a replacement brand new machine.

But that second machine also leaked. We followed the same process and received a third machine, and now it is leaking. I'm VERY CONCERNED. I am reluctant to go back and forth further with Resmed without some intelligent management intervention on their part.

On another forum I found a user comment about replacing their AirSense 10 after it started squealing, so I'm not the only one. But I'm not finding anything concrete about this kind of issue, and not with the newest Aircurve 11 ASV models.

[Please: No comments about checking my hose, or having a partner listen to the mask, or replacing the water tank carefully, yada yada...this is a high pitched squeal, being emitted from inside the machine, lasts a second or second-and-a-half when it occurs, and coincides with the moment of high pressure surges. It can occur once, or multiple times in a night, some nights not at all. Otherwise the machine performs flawlessly. I'm trying to figure out how to attach an audio file which will I believe will be interesting.]

Has anyone heard of this issue? Any thoughts on how best to escalate this with Resmed?

Thank You for listening!
JP

RE: Squealing Resmed AirCurve ASV
Maybe ask the DME to swap with a ResMed 10 series ASV if the 11s are that much trouble. The 10 series is still a great machine.

I recently was issued an 11 VAuto and my DME pointed out to make certain the humidifier tub was well seated. And no I'm not trying to say this is your issue, but noting that the 11s are getting noticed for having issues.

RE: Squealing Resmed AirCurve ASV
Thanks for your thoughts Dave. I'd hate to purchase a new AirCurve 10, having had an identical model for 5 years now, and knowing it has been replaced. Actually I love the 11, it seems to me it is quite a bit more responsive than the 10 - and I agree, the 10 was/is a good machine.

A comment on tanks:
- the Aircurve 11 tank is quite a bit less substantial than the one on the 10. The plastic is much thinner, it feels flimsy, almost fragile. I'll bet Resmed saved a sheckle. Why??

- the two models share the terrible design for the air outlet adaptors, the internal seals which butt up against the water tank and seal the air flow exchange between the machine and the tank when the tank is locked into place. If the designer of that part worked for me, he wouldn't work for me. How they created these out-of-round adaptors to seal round ports is a marvel.

I'm still hoping to find someone who successfully overcame this same issue, or if anyone has insight into how to get to the right person at Resmed.

Thanks!
