OSCAR 1.6.0 won't install on macOS

I know the security issues with macOS, and followed the directions for repeatedly trying until you eventually get the popup allowing you to run the software. But no matter what I do, I keep getting the message "Apple could not verify “OSCAR” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy."

Has anyone been able to get this working on macOS (specifically Sequoia 15.2)?

I don't have a VM with Sequoia, but you might try going to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Developer Tools and add the OSCAR.app to the allowed programs.

Thanks! I actually forgot about this step. I remember now I had to do the same thing when I installed the previous version.

Not sure who to tell about this, but it might be worth the trouble to add this to the installation instructions for the Mac version, since it doesn't mention anything about this extra step.

I ran into the same issue with Oscar 1.6.0 on macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 this morning. The workaround was to:

1. Attempt to open Oscar from your /Applications folder in Finder. You will receive the error message: “OSCAR” Not Opened. Apple could not verify “OSCAR” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.
   
2. Click on Done, do not click on Move to Bin.
   
3. Open System Settings --> Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Security section. You will see the message "OSCAR" was blocked to protect your Mac.
   
4. Click on Open Anyway.
   
5. You will be prompted with another warning: Open "Oscar"? Apple is not able to verify that it is free from malware that could harm your Mac or compromise your privacy. Don't open this unless you are certain it is from a trustworth source.
   
6. Click on Open Anyway.
   
7. You will be prompted with another warning: Privacy & Security. You are attempting to open an app that may cause harm to your Mac or compromise your privacy. Approve with an administrator's Touch ID or enter an administrator's password to allow this.
   
8. Approve using Touch ID or click on Use Password... and enter your password to authorize opening Oscar.
   
9. Go back to your /Applications folder in Finder and try to open Oscar again. It should work this time.

For a more permanent solution that doesn't require this workaround, I think the Oscar app and disk image will need to signed and/or notarized, but this would probably require paying Apple some kind of developer fee? Might be possible for the Oscar dev team to qualify for a waiver though (I don't have enough posts to be allowed to share a link with info).
