pixpop,
Let me try to explain:

You can use the same Profile if you're using 2 or more machines made by the same manufacturer. Example: ResMed S10 AutoSet and ResMed AirCurve VAuto.

Example: If you are using a ResMed S10 and a Respironics machine, (two different manufacturers), then you will need to set up separate profiles.

You also have the option of setting up separate profiles for each machine (regardless of manufacturer) if that makes it easier for you.

That's interesting. Just so I'm not further confused, when setting up a new profile you have to use a different profile name. You can't have two profiles with the same name, is that correct? I know that sounds dumb to ask but I want to be sure.

RE: Oscar with multiple machines
You are correct. I would suggest the CPAPs name for each profile, like AS10 and DS2. If you use something like, "PapaBear1" and "PapaBear2", you will have that moment when you mix them up.
