RE: Question one n30i cushion
Personally, this is a pertinent thread for me.
I've recently had issues similar to those experienced by Yankees 123 and DaveL. I alleviated it somewhat by doing what SevereApnea has suggested - lowering the min EPAP. I also had a play with the Ti settings. The issue I initially had when I first started on BiPAP was that the Insp time was too short and the machine tried to get me into expiration mode before I was ready. Increasing Ti max made a big difference on my therapy.
What I now want to know is how do I increase expiration time. I can't see anywhere in the Resmed Aircurve VAuto settings as to how I could do this (or have I missed the obvious?). To me I breathe out until I need to inhale again and that's a matter of finding and setting a breathing rhythm. I also assume that CO2 plays a part in the process of reinitiating inspiration.
My current settings are:
Max IPAP 25
Min EPAP 10.6
PS 3.6
Ti Max 3.1
Ti min 0.3
Trigger V High
Cycle High
Which of those settings would I adjust to increase expiration time?
Until I've had a bit of a play, I don't really want to post OSCAR charts. I wake up after about 4-5 hours sleep and that feeling of breathlessness sort of stops me going back to sleep again when I put the mask back on unless I really focus on my breathing.
RE: Question one n30i cushion
holden4th I recently had 3 masks....my N20, a F30i and a P30i. The last two were loaners.
I bought the Respironics velcro piece for the back of the head gear because i've had other mask headgear slip off my bald spot.
There is some hope (fingers crossed) for the F30i if I ever have to use a full face mask.
The P30i--I put the Repironics strap on. Adjusted it. I immediately felt great anxiety. I felt like I wasn't getting enough air.
My take---don't ever use the P30i! It's not the right mask for me.
I'm using my N20---visited my DME supplier and bought one. Fresh start. I've felt well rested the last 3 nights.
Hope this helps. I hope it helps the OP too.
RE: Question one n30i cushion
I have exactly the same issue with the N30i nasal cushion! I sleep beautifully with the older design of the N30i cushion and my numbers are great! With the new design I feel like I am suffocating, starving for air and my AHI is always higher! The new port feels like it doesn't allow me to exhale fully!
RE: Question one n30i cushion
I have my ResMed APAP range 11-15 with EPR set to 3. Will raising the min value from 11 to 12 make any difference?
RE: Question one n30i cushion
Are you experiencing hypopneas? If not, what is the reason you wish to increase the minimum pressure.
RE: Question one n30i cushion
I feel like I am staving for air! I have my EPR set to 3 and my range for pressure is 11-15. Was hoping raising the min to 12 would help with the CO2 issue!
RE: Question one n30i cushion
Yes - I too have been a user of the old version of N30i nasal pillows and have concerns about the new version that I now have to use. On the new version, the front vents no longer exist and getting a good seal is more challenging than compared to the old. By my personal study and instinct, I requested/was granted permission to increase pressure on starting ramp. I requested because with the new pillows, while still on settings based off old pillow, I kept waking gasping for air. Even with this ramp adjustment, though less now, I still am still waking to “get air.” No, hypopnea did not increase on its “register” on the CPAP machine as an increase. But again, what is the point for CPAP process but to stop sleep interrupts? So my new pressure is 10-16 now, but I might now request 12-16. I still am not convinced I am full getting CO2 out with this new pillow. I am also frustrated with the “longevity” of the new pillow; it breaks down in 2-3 days and continues to worsen over 2-3 weeks. I am tasked now to regularly adjust tightness for seal almost every few days. Been doing this with new pillows since late September 2021. The older pillow version lasted much longer, sealed better, made CO2 exhaust easier, and I was not waking gasping for air. Note, I was on the old pillow version about 10-11 months prior to being forced to the new pillow “upgrade.” I would not mind suggestions/testimonies from others who have experienced this N30i pillow change.

There's a few people here that are interested in the F&P Evora Full. When it's released.
My take on masks...
* my life would be so much easier with a full face mask that didn't leak and I could tolerate all night long
* I'm close with the ResMed F30i However my AHI was through the roof.
I think the F&P is so much better made than the ResMed F30i--just an impression.
Lately ResMed has copied other makers' masks.
I've had more than 5 N20's. Mr ResMed let's see what you can do when you replace the F30i!!
RE: Question one n30i cushion
I can't compare to the old design, but I just started using the N30i, with the "new" design, and I got lightheaded. It might also be that the cushion for me is too narrow and is compressing my nostrils, but I definitely don't feel like I get full exhale and air.
