Replacement for S9 VPAP
Hi, I have an S9 VPAP that is getting long in the tooth and am keeping my eyes out for a backup / replacement. I see a low hour Aircurve ASV for sale locally. The price is $500 which seems quite attractive and I'm wondering if this is a good machine ? I'm worried that I may miss out on it if I take the time to do the research. From a cursory internet search it had good reviews.
Opinions ? Ken

RE: Replacement for S9 VPAP
The ASV is the highest level of therapy, but it's intended for people with central and complex apnea. There are people on this forum that could use it, but I doubt you are one of them. That ASV sells new for about $4000 USD.
If your machine is the S9 VPAP-S or VPAP Auto then the machine you want is the Aircurve 10 VPAP S or Vauto. Supplier #2 is selling lightly used Vauto with warranty for $749 which is a decent deal, but you may be able to find one for considerably less.

You want the Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto.

RE: Replacement for S9 VPAP
Thanks for the info ! I really am a Luddite at this apnea stuff... I appreciate your time and patience. An online cpap dealer (im in Canada) has two new machines they say will work, depending on my specific prescription (which I don't currently know) One is the Aircurve vauto 3g which is on sale for 1120.00 (affordable) and the other is the Aircurve 10 ST which is almost 4000.00 Ouch ! I am paying out of pocket. I am trying to get mt RX from the fellow that sold me my S9 but no luck yet. Online Dealer says, depending on my RX I may need one machine over the other. Does that sound reasonable ... or is he likely trying to sell me the higher priced one for profitability ? I guess the simple question is... Will the vauto 3G do everything that my S9 does ? If so, I assume it should suffice. I sure like the price. Sorry if these questions are beyond the scope of normal forum help.

RE: Replacement for S9 VPAP
If your Vpap is the auto then the Aircurve vauto is the one you need you don’t need the ST

RE: Replacement for S9 VPAP
Thanks for the timely and helpful reply. It's great to be able to call on people with more knowledge than I, for advice. I've done some reading and the aircurve vauto seems to have a good reputation. I do see some Phillips machines in the same price range, but seeing as I have had good luck with my current S9 I think I'll stick with the Resmed. (unless I'm missing some shortcoming of the AC vauto ?) Tomorrow I will order one, along with a heated hose & filters. Any last minute advice to ponder or tips on not getting fleeced ? ( I am a savvy online shopper) Now... on to mask research. I'm currently using a P 10 nasal pillow, but I am having bad leakage and it bothers my nose a lot. I confess, that in over 5 years of usage and several masks, I've not yet found one I'm acceptably happy with. The online dealer I'm thinking of buying the machine from has a 30 day mask fit guarantee, so I may try something new, with less monetary risk. A full face, is about the only style I haven't tried. There are so many choices to consider and of course we all are shaped differently.
After rather unpleasant & confusing experiences with machine suppliers / sleep clinics etc, there appears to be just enough Voodoo in the sleep apnea world, to keep me thoroughly confused. Again... it is so helpful to have forum members to rely on for opinions and information. Ken

I think that Monstercpap Canada has the Aircurve 10 VAuto for CAD$1600 new. I have ordered CPAP masks and supplies from them before. No issues.

RE: Replacement for S9 VPAP
In answer to the question about suitability per prescription
CPAP choice to treat OSA, CA, obstructive or pulmonary restriction The Auto CPAP such as the AirSense 10 AutoSet is typically the initial machine of choice for treatment of obstructive apnea and hypopnea Just to clarify The VAUTO, ASV and the ST are all BiLevel machines for treating three different conditions, they are NOT interchangeable. They are not a choice between the three to treat a single condition. They should be chosen to treat the specific condition that the user has,
Regarding your question on Mask selection, read the Mask Primer, there is much in there about fitting. Fred
