ResMed MyAir Mask Change Stats

ResMed MyAir Mask Change Stats
I often get up 2-4 times per night to visit the bathroom. When I do, I turn off my machine before I remove my mask or disconnect the hose. My sleep stats on the online MyAir show each of these events as a "Mask Change". It's not a big deal, but it does lower my daily score somewhat. Should I leave the machine running during these bathroom breaks? Or will that cause even greater distortions in data reporting, e.g., increased mask leakage?

Leaving the machine run probably isn't a good idea. Not sure if it would record as one huge leak, but you stats would be messed up.

Download Sleepyhead software and ResScan if you want to compare and make sure your numbers are accurate.

If you leave it run, it knows the difference between blowing air and someone actually taking a breath in and out. Definetly would mess up your numbers.

RE: ResMed MyAir Mask Change Stats
When I have to get up, I like to take a deep breath, manually turn the machine off, and then take off the mask, but this is mainly just to prevent the loud sound of air blasting out of the hose, which would disturb my wife. This also makes your data more accurate and indicative of what's going on during the night. If you left it on, it would be logged as a large leak for a couple of minutes while you're in the restroom.

As for your score, don't worry too much about the mask on/off events. They are basically arbitrary metrics that ResMed decided to include in its "score" scheme. The only MyAir metrics that really matter are usage hours, AHI, and perhaps leak. If you're worried about insurance tracking your compliance, they basically only look at usage hours.

As you have already heard, it is highly recommended that you download SleepyHead and start learning how to track your own therapy, since MyAir provides only the most basic, high-level overview. That's what this board is all about, and I think you'll find it's a lot of fun too, particularly if you're a scientific, data-oriented person (i.e. a nerd). Smile

I found the easiest for me, is to manually turn off machine, separate the hose at the snout and leave the mask on. Easy to take breaths while on bathroom break, then connect the hoses and hit the detonator and I'm off to sleepy land again.

I just pull the hose at the snout also, but I use auto off/start , it blows a little but no big deal, were living in a touch less world. ( don't even need a key for the car, fob in the pocket and just push a button.)
Enjoy!
and as always Sleep-well
