Resmed AirTouch N31i vs. AirFit N30i comments please

Resmed AirTouch N31i vs. AirFit N30i comments please
I've been using the Respironics DreamWear Nasal cradle mask and the similar ResMed AirFit N30i nasal cradle mask for a few years now -- adjusted for a somewhat loose, comfortable fit and accepting some leakage. I see ResMed has made some changes to the AirFit and offers the reconfigured mask as a newer model, the AirTouch N30i.  Figuring that some AirFit N30i (and DreamWear Nasal cradle) users have gone on to try the AirTouch, if you're one of them, please let me know how the AirTouch compares; i.e. which mask you preferred and why. Thanks in advance.

I have used the n30i in the past and recently received the airtouch n30i.  The air fit was ok for me but didn’t like all the silicone around the frame.  The new airtouch is so much more comfortable at least for me.  I especially like the cushion which has a soft material and feels good.  I have only used it for two days but both days had better comfort and no leaks.  I switch between 2-3 masks as I like to rotate them.

Thanks for your  input.  Rotating your masks is interesting.  Why do  you do that?

When I use a nasal mask I have to tape my mouth.  When I get tired of taping I use the F 40 for a break.

Well, my AirTouch N30i arrived yesterday (I’m in Australia) and so I had my first sleeping experience with it… It really is very comfortable.

However, if anyone (like me) was hoping for a different fit to the nasal cradle, it’s pretty much the same as the AirFit. I knew it was a bit of a gamble going in!

Overall, the AirTouch is a much more comfortable design than the AirFit, but if you already have the AirFit I don’t see much to recommend the upgrade unless you’ve got particularly sensitive skin. If you don’t have the N30i in any form, it’s definitely worth getting this version, I think, if you want a nasal cradle.

If I could get the seal and fit right for me, I’d definitely keep using it. Unfortunately, just like when I trialled the AirFit, it seems to dislodge fairly easily overnight for me. Maybe I should get community advice about that!!

Thanks for the comments.  You might try tightening the head strap a bit to keep the cradle from shifting.  It worked for me.
What I'm having some difficulty is: The head strap tends to ride up from low in the back of my head upward.  I wonder what I can do to keep it down.

As far as the problem with the headgear riding up, purchase the Dreamwear “headgear with arms” and that will solve the problem.  I can only think that the headgear is not adjusted correctly or the mask is too far forward.  I have no issues with the frame staying in place and getting a good seal .  I would strongly recommend keep trying to adjust.  Like all masks what’s a winner for one person doesn’t work for another.

I just ordered the AirTouch N30i instead of the Airfit N30i so I can’t speak to the actual differences yet, but if you are having some issues with the headgear slipping up/down or just not staying in place, I tried wearing a cotton surgical cap while using the cpap.  It has helped a bit with the slipping and has definitely helped decrease the pulling on my hair during the night.  Might be something you might consider.

I think headgear slipping up is my issue, too, causing the cradle to be dislodged - so now I've got two pieces of advice to try: thanks to both of you!

I already own the ResMed AirFit N20 which has a more substantial piece of headgear - top band and back band - and has never been a problem slipping And I never thought of trying to put the headgear of the N20 onto the N30i! So I'm doing that tonight to see how it works.

Many thanks!

I’m glad a couple of these suggestions are possible solutions to your issues and hopefully will assist you in getting some good rest.   ?
