You missed the "other" sleeping position - on your stomach! I have found that this is possible with the right kind of pillow and no spare tire around one's waist! While I wouldn't recommend it for a full night, it can be done for short afternoon naps!

PollCat, that used to be my go-to position if I awakened at any time prior to my commencing PAP treatment.  I always fell asleep on my left side (able to burp and the other end that way if needed), but if it got old and I wasn't asleep yet, turn onto my stomach, right side of face on the mattress, and I would be gone inside of two or three minutes, often much less.

Alas, those days are over.  I use a nasal mask, and it is too easily set askew.
