cheyne stokes respiration?
in 533 nights I've had 5 with cheyne stokes respiration, most recently 2 of 3 consecutive nights last week. % in csr: 3.91, 6.55, 3.40, 1.90 & 4.01. is this something to be concerned about? they say it may be associated with congestive heart failure or other underlying conditions but as far as I know I don't have any of them. but I don't have any of the underlying conditions typically associated with central apnea either. depending on settings, sometimes I awake feeling starved for air and forcibly breathe deep and long several times, probably followed by more normal slower shallower breathing or even a pause in breathing (can't say why that is). hoping it's not really csr?

Most likely at those numbers it's nothing to worry about. I've gotten them before on my charts and never could figure out why it would report it. About the same percent that your getting.

RE: cheyne stokes respiration?
G'day sheepless. I agree with WW - I don't think those numbers are a problem. We should also consider that there are other types of periodic breathing besides Cheyne Stokes, though SleepyHead or your machine might report everything as CSR.
In SleepyHead, zoom in on a period of periodic breathing and look at the waveforms - true CSR has a very regular pattern of decreasing flow rate followed by a central apnea or hypopnea, followed by gradually increasing flow. Over and over. Quite often, what the machine reports is a sequence of repeated obstructive apneas or hypopneas which of course is a different problem.

I would suggest discussing it with your medical doctor to get their advice. It can be a sign of other underlying conditions.

RE: cheyne stokes respiration?
You need to discuss with your doctor, and sometimes the machine will look like CSR but unless you have it during the day as well, it may just be pressure induced; blowing off too much carbon dioxide.
