Changed my mother over to APAP Mode:

Changed my mother over to APAP Mode:
And she had a lab test done where she had an overall ahi of 4.6.  The sleep doc won't prescribe her a machine because she doesn't meet the minimum ahi, yet she had very many respiratory related disturbances, she didn't get below 88% desaturation though throughout the study.   Any thoughts on this night of sleep?  I cannot get the date to set correctly on her machine, so this was last week.

Don't use a sleep doc, use her regular physician to make a recommendation based on her study AND how she feels and any other considerations. Sleep doc is a quack and can be over-ruled by the "treating physician". Let me quote from our wiki here: https://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.ph...Sleep_Test
Quote:Sleep Specialists or Doctors serve singular function specified by Medicare/CMS requirement; to sign off on a sleep study ordered by a treating physician, and used to document a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. There is no requirement that a treating physician be a board certified sleep specialist. Many sleep specialists attempt to convert the subjects of sleep tests to routine care and recurring appointments. The economic incentive for a specialist to have an ongoing physician-patient relationship is obvious; however there is no requirement to see a specialist once the test is complete. The treating physician can be the same doctor a patient sees for annual exams and routine health care. It is advisable that the patient request their treating physician to assume responsibility for their ongoing PAP care and prescriptions. This will generally require routine discussion of your CPAP therapy and informing your DME of the name, address and fax for your treating physician.

This sleep doctor, like most other self-important narcissists, is out of his lane and determining the needs of a patient he does not treat, or have a continuing medical relationship with. The sleep study is just one consideration in whether therapy is needed, and her regular doctor is the one to discuss this with. You may wish to attend that appointment if you have strong feelings about this. Her regular doctor can interpret the results to look at issues like arousals, sleep integrity and structure, REM sleep and other aspects of sleep disordered breathing in addition to AHI. If you wish to post a copy of the sleep test with personal information redacted, we can help guide you on alternative ways to interpret that data. Your mom has a right to request a complete copy of the sleep study and recommendations.

One other thing...Don't let someone you love use a Philips CPAP. Get a Resmed.
