When I attended Jambo in 2010, I was initially refused a place, because I declared sleep apnea on my medical form. Is this discrimination?

RE: Camping with CPAP
I am planning to attend the Boy Scout Jamboree in 2013. I will need to survive 10 nights without electricity. In addition, I can only pack in one duffell bag of gear, and I have to carry it a good distance. I own an AEIO Everest 3 with battery pack which I take camping, and usually there is somewhere I can charge it during the day, like at the camp office. On a short trip I go without CPAP on night one, and then use it on night 2 - so I am going to be safe to drive home.

RE: Camping with CPAP
I'm not a lawyer so I have no legal advice, just questions and a story.
Could they refuse a person in a wheelchair? Or a person with only one leg? Could they refuse a blind person who needs a service dog? I don't know the answer. In these cases it sounds like blatant discrimination but there might be more to it than that. If any of these conditions put the camper or other campers at risk because of the terrain, the location, the activities, etc. then the courts might not see it as discrimination. We had a colleague who was suffering from clinical depression. She wasn't doing her job and hadn't been doing her job for quite a long time. Once the diagnoses came through we thought we would end up doing her job and ours until she retired, but that wasn't the case. Our bosses were able to release her because her disability was causing her to be incompetent. She wasn't release because she had clinical depression. She was let go because she couldn't perform the duties of her job. In your case I don't know how sleep apnea would negatively affect the Boy Scout Jamboree but if you find out, please let us know. I'm curious as to their rationale for denying you a place at the Jamboree.

Does it provide the same hours as what I bought? Who knows, but 2 pounds verses 4.5 to 6 pounds is certainly enticing if I'm backpacking or carrying it while traveling. It depends on the battery technology. Lead-acid batteries are heavier than lithium-ion batteries.

RE: Camping with CPAP
Has anyone had success in plugging their (12VDC compatible) machine into a 12VDC source while camping?
I believe I can get a cigarette lighter power cord for my machine and run it from my tent into my parked car. Will this work without completely draining my car battery? My thought is.. if this will work I can either get a solar charger to keep my battery in shape or just run the car for awhile to recharge. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
