Smelly cpap smell after months of use and other problems

RE: Smelly cpap smell after months of use and other problems
What the others have coached you on is right on! Maintaince of your unit is really important, in order to insure the equipment is working right, as well as- and as importantly, so that you do not get sick from micro organisms that may be growing inside your system!

I recommend washing and disinfecting your system every week. It may sound like a lot, however if this prevents even one bronchitis or pneumonia, it's worth it. Just IMHO.Thinking-about[/font]

You do need to wash the gray foam filter every two weeks, and replace it every 6 months. There is an optional white filter that goes behind the gray filter. If you use it, you need to replace it every month.

It's necessary to have the grey filter in place to prevent machine damage long term. The white filter is optional.

How do you clean your water tank?

Are you getting this machine and supplies from a local DME (CPAP salesman)? Do you have insurance? Are you in the USA? If so, there should be a schedule for replacement parts.

If not you can buy replacement parts (other than masks) online without a prescription.

Are you working with a doctor on apnea?

If you check out the suppliers, you can buy a tube cleaning brush on a long wire so you can run the wire with the brush through the entire length of the hose to clean it.

You should soak everything in vinegar for a few hours, then wash everything thoroughly with mild dish soap, rinse and let dry completely. Once a week. Masks every day, or every other day.

I'm closing this thread. If the OP is serious, he can start another thread about how to clean his machine. If he's joking around it's not appreciated. Let's leave it at that. For now.
