Is it safe to use a refurbished/used CPAP machine purchased from an end user online?

The Dreamstation bilevels are not nearly as good as the ResMed AirCurve 10 Vautos. My husband used a Dreamstation for many years and can hardly believe how much better the ResMed is. Get a used ResMed instead.

Right but this one has supposedly been remediated as the black foam has been removed...so you still wouldn't use it?

Ok thanks good to know.  I really just want to know if BiPap is that much more comfortable for me before going all out and spending hundreds on a machine but yes I trust ResMed more anyway.  How many nights of sleep did it take before you realized that BiPap was so much better than CPAP/APAP?

Interesting, there's YouTube videos by guys like Lanky Lefty that show how to remove it and what not...didn't know it was still a huge hazard after removal.  I am definitely open to not trying it though if you all think it's that dangerous.

The air in these machines pass through the blower motor and a silicone housing, when one removes the visible foam they really don’t take apart the blower motor and flush out the housing. That’s more involved than just quickly removing the foam. Theoretically, the foam shouldn’t come near the motor at all , but it was recalled for a reason and the reason is all those fine particles can end up in your lungs.

Well you make a really good case for not using it for sure.  He did say originally that he removed the motor and cleaned it out and checked the bearings.  I didn't have to pay for the machine so I don't think he's just trying to sell me on it but still there's probably residue that can't be removed right?

If this is ResMed versus Philips Respironics, then go with ResMed. In most cases, it'll be a better therapy.

I trust ResMed more so if I do get to have a BiPap that is what I'll do.  However, this Philips Dreamstation 1 was sent to me free of charge to see how I like a BiPap and it has supposedly been remediated.  From what all I've read on these posts I am comfortable with a used machine...but this particular one, even remediated, has me concerned.  Now if I try it out for just a couple of nights to see if it makes a huge difference in my sleep I would think I would have a very low risk of having contamination...but what do I know??

I decided to just send it back and not use it.  I might have to go the Deborah K route if I want to try a BiPap (ResMed VAuto preferably)...is it possible to buy a refurbished one without a doctors Rx?
