[Symptoms] Daily Decline in Cognitive Function

RE: Daily Decline in Cognitive Function
I wonder whether your hypopneas in the sleep test were interpreted as obstructive while in reality they were central. You might ask the doctor about that.

Some more detailed sleep study reports do break Hypopnea up into Obstructive vs Central. I'm thinking I've seen other users showing this.

RE: Daily Decline in Cognitive Function
Hey all, just wanted to follow up on this.

I received a new machine this past Thursday - Aircurve 10 ST. My pressure was set to 19/14 with a PS of 5 and a backup rate of 15 breaths/min. Since then I have had zero central apneas. The sleep specialist confirmed they were likely treatment emergent, since my original study showed none. She said they eventually would go away, but they upgraded my machine to be safe. However, despite my improved numbers, I can't say I'm feeling much better yet.

The first night was pretty rough getting used to the backup rate, and the elevated pressure caused a lot of awakenings due to mask leakage. I had to set the ramp time to 45 minutes to get to sleep, and the rise time to 450ms (it was initially set to "Min" which was way too abrupt). The exhalation time is just as abrupt but I'm not sure if that's something I can control. I am hopeful that with my apneas eliminated I will start to see some improvement in mental clarity in the coming weeks. I still am having issues with sleep fragmentation which may be delaying my improvement, as someone mentioned. I can't sleep through the night anymore without waking at least once or twice.

I've attached a few nights with the new machine. Thank you all for your advice and discussion. Having people who understand is truly a breath of fresh air (no pun intended).

RE: Daily Decline in Cognitive Function
I hope others will help with the ST questions. I just wanted to mention that it's normal to wake up multiple times during the night. If the wake-ups are short, we often don't remember them. It sounds like you are having longer wake-ups that you can remember. I hope they'll abate soon.
