My home sleep study showed 20 AHI, mostly hypopneas (not classified as central or obstructive), with about one central apnea and 0.5 obstructive apnea per hour. It also showed a whole lot of central apneas and hypopneas while I was actually lying in bed awake — not sure what that might mean, why would my oxygen saturation be dropping when awake?

Taking a big breath before CA event
I'm just starting with a CPAP machine and noticed some patterns that look odd to me. The machine (Airsense 10 Autoset) is recording one or two clear airway events per hour, which I understand isn't a big deal, but it looks like before each CA event, I'm taking a much larger than normal breath. I understood central apneas were generally your nervous system not sending signals to breathe, but this looks like something different. I just wondered if anyone had seen this kind of pattern before and if it was normal or not. Examples attached.

RE: Taking a big breath before CA event
That is most likely you holding your breath when changing sleeping positions.
sats can drop because of irregular awake breathing.

RE: Taking a big breath before CA event
The rule of thumb I use for both CAs and OAs is: If there is volatility before the cessation of breathing, it's probably a false positive.
