The point of CPAP Machine explained ?

The point of CPAP Machine explained ?
Hi There,

So I have been changing settings based on good advice on this forum i have a resmed 9 (no humidifier) and am using epr setting 3 and have been changing the min and max settings.  Last night i seemed to almost get a full 7.5 hrs sleep which was new for me , (tend to wake up choking early morning apparently without the mask) . It's a full face mask and i know there is some leakage but seems to be getting better... so is the whole point of this that you end up with not many events if you get the min and max settings right because i don't seem to of had many events last night which i guess is a win.  Hope that makes sense have attached graphs as well.

Cheers,
Greg.

"Some leakage" sounds euphemistic ... There are constantly blowing about 15l/min at the wrong place. So either the mask is poorly adjusted or doesn't fit your face.

Your flow limitations are significantly higher than the 95% value of 0.10 we call high.

This means you still have significant resistance to your breathing despite your low AHI.

Typically we increase EPR to manage this but you are already at the machines max. This id like you to try a min of 10 and see if that helps. I suspect you may need 12. On a BiLevel I'd increase your PS (EPR on your machine)

Gregsleep - Since your thread is centered on your therapy and not software, I am moving it to the Main forum.

With median large leak rate at 15.6, this will likely be one of your highest priority therapy needs to address. There's little possibility to get good treatment with this big of a large leak rate.

It is probable that your mask is the culprit, either in poor fit, wrong size, not adjusted properly. Then if you're using a full face mask, this gives higher area to seal, making things even more difficult to control leaks.

Ah thanks so much for the info I will definitely try setting it between 10min and 13 max tonight ... i appreciate the leakage is a problem it is a large mask but it just sometimes i need to fit it better perhaps.  I will report back !

..... do you think that i should/need to use a cpap machine in your experience ?

Cheers ,

Greg

If you're meaning do you have medical need for CPAP. Yes it would appear so. I couldn't in any way give any professional medical diagnosis however, as I'm not a medical pro, and then in this thread we've not seen a diagnosis from a sleep test. Besides that, even though the CPAP therapy isn't optimal just yet, there's got to be some benefit. And the small amounts of Apnea showing in OSCAR will likely be higher to much higher without the machine.
