Supposedly the algorithm is more suited to women.

Whether that's true or not, uhhhhh...

Is there that much difference in the hardware between it and the Autoset line? Simplify the supply chain, support and marketing efforts: make one model that do everything like the Autoset? Of course there would still be the need for the more complex BL and ASV machines, But if you could eliminate three machine models from the lineup, why not go for it?

I think that they do it so that after they sell you a brick, you will come back sooner for an upgraded machine Tongue They can sell 2 machines instead of 1 this way.

I think selling a brick is the fastest way to get someone to fail at CPAP therapy and not only not get a new machine, but not use the one they have.

For Her seems to be the kool kids kool-aid. Even the guys are secretly lusting for it. Especially the geeky Big Bang Theory types. They used to get excited over the latest computer CPU, but a CPAP with leaves works now. Dont-know

Gotta admit this pointy headed chick is jealous of the ones who got the latest toy instead of last yrs leftovers like meeeee..... and the latest cpu.... well computers are lasting longer and longer with the consumer dash to tablets and smartphones!

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum

Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night

Well, I have it and it is working real well for me, however, I do not like the "big brother" data transmission feature, and the attached humidifier. I purchased a used S9 from my DME (to travel with) and to be honest, it looks like a heftier, better made machine than the Airsense 10 Autosets. I can take or leave humidification so if the algorithm was available in the S9, I would prefer the footprint of the S9.

If you want an Airsense 10 for her, checking with your DME, sometimes people do not comply and insurance makes them return the device, so when the DME get the machines back with low hours they sell them at much lower prices. You might have to wait a little bit given that the Airsense has not been in the market too long.

OK, I like my shiny new toy. From my personal diving experience and log books, I know I have smaller lung volume and go through less air than my husband. I think the "For Her" program uses smaller pressure increments when it jumps up pressure when needed. The smaller increments work better with my smaller lung volume and reduce discomfort that would wake me when I used the S9.

My 2 cents worth.

I am happy with mine too. The smaller increments is supposed to be what makes a difference, and I have been sleeping so well lately that I don't even check sleepyhead readings daily like I used to! Last night was 0.1 AHI so that is close to perfect! The 0.0 happen but they are elusive!

RE: Why Autoset for Her
Actually my question was more like: Why an Autoset for Her? Why not a VPAP Auto for Her? Or maybe an ASV for Her.

I was just looking up the "features" and definitions tonight. I think mine is like an ASV. I find it hard to understand all the trademarked terms.

PaytonA, I totally agree with you!

My question to Resmed would be, why not add the "For Her" algorithm capability to all the Autosets? The footprint is the same, only the shell color changes, what if a female wants a black machine and a male a white colored one? They are attempting to attract the apnea female population but it seems like they do not research what we would like!

RE: Why Autoset for Her
Even in companies that do research, marketing decisions are often made by the CEO (or what his wife likes).

There's no reason for more than one AirSense model--the AutoSet with both for him and for her algorithms along with the basic CPAP mode-- no "CPAP" brick or "Elite" model--just one. It would make DME's inventory easier to manage too. This is Medicare basic CPAP billing code E0601.

The same applies to bi-level AirCurves. One could include basic CPAP, S, T, and Auto modes. This is the bilevel billing code E0470.

The ST and the ASV could also be combined into one unit with basic CPAP, ST, and ASV modes. This is bilevel with backup breathing rate, E0471.
