[Diagnosis] AHI scores - what sort of range do people have?

AHI scores - what sort of range do people have?
Mine was 65 or so which I assume must be high because "severe" is over 30. But listened to someones podcast and theirs was 130. Wow.....

Trying to motivate myself to stick with things. I know untreated Sleep Apnea is bad.... To be honest, thinking about it I've probably had it for years. Took my wife nagging me to get tested to be honest.

I know they say it can cause serious problems - apart from just sleep deprivation. Are there any studies on this?

p123;
My pre-cpap AHI was 57 and the Doctor considered it severe ..
After Apap it ranges from 2.0 down to .0 ..
I was foutunate and had no trouble adjusting to the mask (Resmed F-20 medium)
and Apap (AS 11 Auto set) ..
First night I slept 7+ hours with it ..
As to studies I can't help You, Though someone will probably be along who can ..

Good Luck adjusting to treatment !!

Quick search of NIH PubMed brings up this book:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29083619/

In which they write (emphasis mine):
Quote:"The short-term prognosis of OSA with treatment is good, but the long-term prognosis is guarded. The biggest problem is the lack of adherence to CPAP, as nearly 50% of patients stop using CPAP within the first month despite education.[82] Many patients have comorbidities and /or are at risk for adverse cardiac events and stroke. Hence those who do not use CPAP are at increased risk of cardiac and cerebral adverse events [83] in addition to higher annual healthcare-related expenses. [84] Further, OSA is also associated with pulmonary hypertension, hypercapnia, hypoxemia, and daytime sedation. In addition, these individuals have a high risk of motor vehicle accidents. The overall life expectancy of patients with OSA is lower than the general population. OSA is known to affect cardiac function, particularly in obese individuals. [85][86] CPAP treatment was recently found to improve left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) mechanics in patients with OSA. [87]"

RE: AHI scores - what sort of range do people have?
There are many studies and articles.  Google "effects of untreated sleep apnea"

Severe obstructive sleep apnea means that your AHI is greater than 30 (more than 30 episodes per hour)
Moderate obstructive sleep apnea means that your AHI is between 15 and 30
Mild obstructive sleep apnea means that your AHI is between 5 and 15

"Sleep apnea occurs in about 3 percent of normal weight individuals but affects over 20 percent of obese people, Jun says. In general, sleep apnea affects men more than women. However, sleep apnea rates increase sharply in women after menopause. Sleep apnea is often linked to heart disease and metabolic issues like diabetes."

There are also studies that link OSA with increased risk of cancer:

I don't mean to scare you or to be moralizing but this is a topic that has a LOT of research on it. Lack of sleep messes with your body in so many ways beyond just feeling tired.
