Through certain technologies employed by our websites and mobile applications, we also collect other information about you in accordance with our Cookie Notice. For more details about this type of data collection, please refer to our Cookie Notice.

* When you submit your personal data as part of the registration to create an account for the Service or engage in any transactions with us through the Service, you voluntarily submit your personal data to us.
* When you voluntarily submit your device serial number as part of the online registration process, you consent to the ongoing transmission of your device data to the Service.
* With your consent, we may collect information about you on your behalf from your healthcare or home medical equipment provider.
* We may also collect personal data about you from other sources, including public databases. This data is available because you either consented to have the data shared with third parties or allowed it to be public at some point.

* Subject to local laws, we may use your first name, last name, email address, and phone number to link information about you across ResMed platforms and OTHER SOURCES (.g. Oh?  What else will they be sharing?

When I read the terms, what I understood was they are using our personal data (birthdate, sex, sleepdata, email) for product research and development as well as sending emails about new products if one has opted in for that.  I wasn't aware that they are sharing our info with third parties...

I imagine that you would have received a different email since you are in Canada.

This is what I received:

Quote:Dear myAir™ user,

On February 27, 2018, we updated myAir’s Terms of Use, Privacy Notice and Cookie Notice. They’re easier to read and include exciting changes to improve your experience. We encourage you to go to the myAir website to read through the updated terms and notices.

Changes to the Terms of Use take effect immediately. If you’re a new user, changes to the Privacy Notice take effect immediately. If you’re an existing user, changes to the Privacy Notice will be effective 30 days after we publish it to our website.

Here’s a summary of the changes:
  • Unified health experience: We may link your non-health-related, personal data in myAir to your data in our other ResMed platforms to provide a more unified experience. For example, this would allow us to provide you the contact details of your home medical equipment (HME) or healthcare provider (HCP). Subject to local laws, we may also inform your HME or HCP that your device is registered with myAir.
  • Personalized service: In the United States, we may now collect personal data from publicly available sources (such as demographics) to learn more about the sleep apnea population and give you better service. Your data is only collected if you have agreed it could be shared with third parties (like us) or allowed it to be public.
  • Better promotional communications: If you agree to promotional communication, we may now link your personal data with information about you from third-party public databases. In the United States, we may now engage third parties to market for us through other communication methods like social media.
We also provided clarification on the following items:
  • Use of mobile analytics: Our use of mobile analytics does not include your personal data.
  • Use of myAir: The content and coaching provided by ResMed is not medical advice. Your use of myAir is by choice and should not replace advice from a qualified medical professional.
  • Your consent: ResMed obtains therapy information from your healthcare or home medical equipment provider only if you consent. This information is used only with myAir.
We hope these changes enhance your experience. Thank you for using myAir.
The myAir Team

That is, until someone leaves their laptop in the back seat of their car (with all Resmed patient information). Oh, and someone breaks into the car to steal it (always do).

I don't think there is very sensitive information being transmitted to MyAir. Even I find it is useless which is the reason I shut it down.

RE: Disabiling MYAIR
Sounds to me a little like they want to commercialize some of the info they have on you from MyAir (so they can sell your contact info to other suppliers), but still be HIPA compliant. Probably don't have to worry about them sharing actual medical info (they'd really get whacked under HIPA if they did), but it looks like they (or whomever they sell your non-medical info to) are apt to fill your email and mailbox with spam to feed their wallet.

RE: Disabiling MYAIR
I strongly suspect there is a sim card buried in the guts of the machine somewhere, and if one was brave enough to dig into the machine it could be pulled out to permanently disable the wireless feature. I'm not brave enough, so can't confirm for sure.

RE: Disabiling MYAIR
There will only be a SIM card if your machine uses a GSM or LTE modem. If you have a CDMA modem, you will have to disconnect the modem board inside your machine. Somebody here described how to do it quite a while back. I can't be bothered; CDMA will disappear soon enough, although Ontario may be the last holdout.
