ResMed F40 AirFit mask

RE: ResMed F40 AirFit mask
Enjoy the F40. I love mine. IMO it's key to get the right size. There's a headgear size and a mask size. Also, you have to set your xPAP unit to "pillows" instead of full face mask. It says so right on the packaging.

My experience is that the mask gets a little wild when the pressure goes above 14, but I've checked, and you're not in that category. Good thing.

As an added tip, I've found that the mask sticks super well if I wipe it with a mask wipe and also wipe my face in the mask area. If I get exasperated in the night with a leak, I give my mouth another wipe, and it sticks! It never wakes me up again the whole night. I would guess I'm wiping off facial oils and sweat that are making my mask a bit slippy. Such an easy solution.

Also, the mask can sound like it's leaking when it's not.

I have to tighten the F40 a bit tighter than I like, but my headgear is tricked out with Pad-a-cheeks, so there's no discomfort. They might actually help with leaks.

Thanks for the tips! I've been very happy with my AirFit F30. If the F40 doesn't work out, I'll stick with what does, the F30.  Cool

I plan to get the F40 soon, but wonder about sizing. The cushion sizing guide indicates I should use a medium cushion. There are also 3 different sizes for the headgear. I haven't found any size guide for the headgear. How do I know which size to order?

I'm currently using a Fisher & Paykel Evora, which is similar, but has some key differences I don't like. Their size guide also indicated I should get a medium cushion, but after trying medium and large for a couple months, I definitely do better with the large. (Harder to breathe with the medium.) Are they similar enough that I would also do better with the large cushion on  the F40?

I'm going to stop by on Monday and make the swap. The AirFit F30 I'm trading in is a size medium. The AirFit F40 I'll be picking up is a medium.

While I'm there, I'll ask about sizing and what they think would suit me best. More-times-than-not, the headgear has enough adjustment to make do.

If push turns to shove, I'll order a large cushion if needed.

@mecutl3r What size hat do you wear? That's your answer on headgear size for the F40. It's also a HUGE range for one size, so plenty of adjustment. As for cushion, there's a little chart on their manual. Look it up and print it out. I would say, the cushions are "true to size", but how wide your nostrils are is a factor, as well as how long the distance between nostrils and just under your lower lip. This can vary by ethnicity.

RE: ResMed F40 AirFit mask
I went and picked up my ResMed AirFit F40 today. ROTECH let me swap it out for a new / unused F30 that I had on hand.

Anyways, I gave it a good look over and made sure that the size medium was what I needed. I used the nose fitment placard to insure that a medium was proper.

I changed the mask setting from full face to pillows on my 10 AutoSet. The only thing I'm not so sure of is that it has a 10" long hose already attached to it. I can see that as possibly being cumbersome. My F30 didn't have one.

So.....tonight will be interesting.  Eat-popcorn

You can always use a hose lifter. I use one because the Bleep also has a similar hose attached. With the lifter, the entire hose is up and out of my way. I like that. Amazon sells lots of different versions. I went cheap on this, and it works great. It's the one the owner of Bleep uses himself, so I decided it would work. It's the North American something or other version.

Yeah.....I'm currently using a hose hanger. It's been adjusted for my F30.

Looks as if I'll have to do some adjusting now to fit the F40, due to the attached 10" hose.  Rolleyes

I love that flexible 10" extension on the F-40. Much lighter and more flexible than the heated hose from the machine, so less chance of 'hose induced' mask displacement and leakage

Yeah, in order to accommodate that 10" hose, I had to readjust my Climateline hose, and take up some of it's slack so that it won't be too long overall.
