Smart Watches/devices
RE: Smart Watches/devices
Hi all,

https://www.techradar.com/reviews/oura-generation-3

And I read Samsung also comes with a "ring".

Apple stops with smartwatch I heard on TV.

Kind regards,

Jan,

I think you should ask your doctor to make you an appointment with a pneumologist to assess you sleep apnea. Apnea can lead to a number of physical ailments such as glaucoma, high blood pressure, and cardiac problems. There are a number of ways of treating it.

Best I've had is my iWatch 6. You can still get iWatch 8's in Canada at ammazon last time I checked.

@Pikeyk

I've been compliant for over 35 years. I have high blood pressure and have had a heart procedure. Told my cardiologist that I wasn't supposed to have a heart condition. He laughed.

RE: Smart Watches/devices
It doesn't actually detect sleep. I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2. I have serious, chronic sleep issues. I realized quickly that they use the lack of movement as a proxy for sleep. Perhaps they use heart rate as well? I only get a few hours of sleep a night. I spend the other time reading quietly, very still, on a backlit Kindle set to "warm". Apple Health and the other sleep app both count those hours reading as "sleep". I'm waiting for an affordable, "dumb" bluetooth EEG device that is capable of actually detecting sleep. (Delta wave monitor?) Right now, I use the watch's automatic oxygen saturation recording to simply look for my lowest oxygen levels. The lowest levels happen on nights when I've taken old-school sleep meds (think horse tranquilizers!) to sleep. So, I know that my apnea is worse when I'm under the influence of sedatives. No surprise, but not really helpful. Being able to export oxygen saturation levels from my watch to OSCAR would be nice, but smartwatches ability to track sleep is all assumptions and guesswork, like Body Mass Index. If you want to know what your actual body fat percentage is, you need to measure it directly via multi-point skin caliper or water displacement type testing. FWIW.

Not sure if anyone already mentioned, but on YouTube, The Quantified Scientist, compares several smartwatches to Polysomnography and EEG Headbands

Oh, I’ll have to look! I'm waiting on a post weight loss reassessment. I’m  assuming that my insurance company will be pushing for an at-home sleep study. This will be absolutely worthless because of the fact that I currently sleep 2-3 hours a night. Amazingly, I have ZERO apnea when not sleeping!

Samsung press release: Samsung’s Sleep Apnea Feature on Galaxy Watch First of Its Kind Authorized by US FDA. Some more details, seems like it's measuring blood oxygen. Not exactly new but it's remarkable they got FDA authorization.
