RE: Surprise visit from insurance company
Maybe it's just the redneck in me, but does anyone else find it strange that the insurance company showed up at your house asking for compliance?
I might have told them to go take a hike, even though I'm in perfect compliance.

For me, where I sit and from who I am, no way would I have let her in the door. Brand new insurance company is at my door asking for compliance proof? Sounds like they know someone is cheating but instead of going after the cows that got out, they're harassing the ones that stayed in the barn.

I thought the same thing, Dgsr and Paula. Did they have a search warrant? Next they'll want to see your papers too...

The visit does sound a little strange - are you and your son on the same insurance and did you both get machines or new masks or something around the same time? That could have triggered an alert in their fraud software with multiple same items going out to an address, and they wanted to check the "customer" and the "DME" to see if they (the insurance co.) were getting scammed and the items were getting paid for and resold. Just a thought!

I do want to add, though, that what the OP did was what he did in his situation based on his understanding of it. In no way do I, or anyone else, condemn him for doing what he did. We weren't there. We weren't standing in his shoes. Our griping about it is based on our assumption of what we would do if someone were to knock at our door.

It sounds to me like the medical providers who are supplying your machines are under investigation by the insurance company. Sweet deal, though, them paying for everything.
